Apple is poised to become the world’s largest smartphone brand in 2023, surpassing Samsung for the first time, according to a new report from a well-known Apple analyst.
Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a track record of accurate predictions about Apple products, wrote on Medium that Apple is expected to ship between 220-225 million iPhone units in 2023, while samsung’s shipments have been reduced to 220 million units due to the global chip shortage.
Kuo also projected that Apple will maintain its lead in 2024, with a target of 250 million iPhone units shipped, while samsung’s outlook remains conservative.
Apple’ sprojected dominance in the smartphone market comes as the company prepares to launch the iPhone 15 series on September 12. The iPhone 15 Pro is expected to feature major improvements across the board, including an improved camera system, significantly larger batteries, and titanium bodies. However, Kuo warned that the iPhone 15 shipments could face some delays due to supply chain issues, especially for the iPhone 15 Pro Max model, which is said to be the most affected.
Despite these challenges, Kuo expressed optimism that Apple stock will rebound in the near term, as the market is being overly pessimistic about the iPhone 15 sales. He also stated that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will start mass shipments this week, which could alleviate some of the concerns.
