Doha: The Government Housing Department at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) have signed a memorandum of understanding for the lease of residential real estate to provide accommodations for fans and visitors during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 which is scheduled to kick off in November 2022.
According to the memorandum of understanding, the joint work team received a number of lease requests from real estate owners, and reviewed, studied and evaluated them. As a first phase, more than 150 real estate varied between buildings, towers and residential complexes (complete and undivided) fully furnished, have been approved, providing 15,000 rooms.
The SC said in a statement that work is currently underway to sign contracts with real estate owners within the government housing program through renewable five-year contracts that include the championship period and beyond, provided that they are used after the championship within the government housing program. In line with Qatar National Vision 2030, the program, when its phases are complete, is expected to provide the real estate needs of government housing for a long period.
For his part, Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs, HE Yousuf Mohammed Al Othman Fakhroo, said that the Ministry is pleased to complete the first phase of the project and secure thousands of rooms for guests of the State of Qatar through cooperation with the private sector during the championship and then take advantage of these houses for government housing requirements.
His Excellency added that the Ministry will continue to work with real estate owners in the private sector in the country to inspect their properties and determine their compliance with the residency standards for hosting for the visitors and fans of the championship.
His Excellency confirmed that the online application portal is still open, inviting real estate owners to register as soon as possible to take advantage of this distinctive opportunity.
SC Secretary-General HE Hassan Al Thawadi, said that they succeeded in securing thousands of rooms more than two years before the start of the first World Cup in the Middle East and the Arab World as a result of cooperation with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs.
His Excellency added that SC will continue its commitment to work with its local partners to provide sustainable accommodation options, in a way that contributes to strengthening the local economy and supports the continuous development of the business sector, and SC looks forward to receiving more requests from private sector owners, in order to serve the efforts of the State of Qatar in preparing to host the World Cup.
The SC and the Government Housing Department welcome owners who wish to support the championship and cooperate by renting out their properties to be used during the World Cup. Applications are received through the residential real estate platform, to be subject to evaluation and study, and then inspection according to the followed procedures.
Last March, both sides signed a memorandum of understanding with the aim of providing more accommodation options and granting investment opportunities to private sector owners in the country to offer their properties to host visitors and fans during the championship.
Since the signing of the agreement, real estate owners in the private sector have been able to sign five-year lease contracts with the Ministry and SC. The Ministry and SC renewed the call for more real estate owners to submit applications to offer their properties for leasing as part of efforts to support the local economy and the participation of the private sector in the event during the preparation period for the championship.
